MOVIMENTO ESTUDANTIL NA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO ACRE: PRÁTICAS E REPRESENTAÇÕES SOBRE A AMAZÕNIA (1977-1990)

Abstract : This dissertation aims to understand how the Student Movement (ME) at the Federal University of Acre was in dialogue with the intense social conflicts of the Acre society where it was inserted. Looking for the study to show how the symbologies that refer to life in the Amazon were used within the Student Movement and how the students introduced the discourse in defense of the forest within the movement. After the military coup of 1964, the Amazon became the target of projects and policies aimed at occupying its territory in a process to "integrate" the region in the wave of modernization and capital accumulation in Brazil. In 1977 came the leadership of the Central Student Directory of the Federal University of Acre students who were already participating in other social movements and then made the Student Movement another agent in the struggle for land, at a time when expropriation of the same generated social ills . The narratives constructed by the students about the Amazon found in the name of Chapa as Seringueira (1977) and in a slogan like Preserving to Survive (1981) and in the demand for a teaching oriented to the Amazonian reality (1981) point us the students' dialogue with the local themes, and how they represented them within the institution, bring the "forest" to the university. The research relied on secondary and primary sources. This is the documentary part of the collection of the Central Directory of Students of the Federal University of Acre, the consultation of newspapers and the holding of interviews with former leaders of the local Student Movement. As a theoretical reference, we refer to Roger Chartier (2002, 2011) Stuart Hall (2003), Alessandro Portel (2010), Valter Benjamim (1994) and others. Among the issues raised are the relation that the Student Movement maintained with the problems related to the land conflict in Acre, the use of the discourse in defense of the forest and the practices of resistance.
