Anglicismos léxicos en los noticiarios de la televisión puertorriqueña

Abstract : The existing concern about the frequency of English words and phrases in the Spanish language spoken in Puerto Rico, a country which has been subject to the English language for political reasons since 1898, has been expressed in many written pages. On one side, passionate expressions have been published about the negative influence of English; on the other, there are researches which do not totally confirm these impressions. In this work, the frequency and types of English words found in a sample of Puerto Rican television news is analyzed. The research forms part of a project entitled Unidad y Diversidad de la Lengua Española (DIES-RTP), designed by Colegio de México and developed in Puerto Rico by the Institute of Linguistics of the University of Puerto Rico.
